Allan and I recently took a day to stroll around the village of Mystic, CT.
The night before we explored the town, we decided to stop at the famous Mystic Pizza joint.
I was secretly hoping Julia Roberts would pop out and serve us pizza but it was nice to visit a place that made me feel nostalgic about big hair and rom-coms.
I am sad to report back that the pizza is terrible at Mystic Pizza. This restaurant is mostly a tourist trap and you should visit more for the experience than the pizza. The pizza kind of tastes like it came from Pizza Hut and is 90% bread, which was really disappointing. Sorry if you're a fan of their pizza! Maybe us New Yorkers are just spoiled when it comes to good thin crust pizzas. Safe to say that I will not be returning to Mystic Pizza. Shout out to Deninos shaolin~!
The next day we woke up bright and early to walk around the village of Mystic.
It is such a cute town to walk through and it radiates the quintessential New England vibe.
We had the most fun at the Mystic Army Navy store trying on a bunch of hats and gear.
My baby woulda been a good looking soldier.
Here's a little tid bit about Mystic and Mystic Country:
Mystic was founded in 1654 and quickly rose to prominence as a shipbuilding center during the clipper ship era. Nowadays, Mystic has become known for its quintessential New England charm, as well as its two world-class museums: the Mystic Seaport, the world's largest maritime museum; and the Mystic Aquarium, featuring fascinating creatures from both sea and land, as well as the exhibits of Dr. Robert Ballard, discoverer of the Titanic.
The relaxed New England charm that has made Mystic a well-known vacation destination can be felt all through the area – from the quiet farm areas of the Northeast corner of Connecticut, to the coastal towns of Connecticut and neighboring Rhode Island. As a result, it has become known as Mystic Country
We were all fascinated by the Mystic River Bascule Bridge. The bridge goes up when there is a taller boat that needs to pass. Everyone gathered around taking pictures and marveled at the bridge going up and down.
It was a beautiful day for a stroll. I love visiting cute towns like this away from the busy city.
I wouldn't recommend planning a vacation exclusively to Mystic, but it is a great place to pass through!
If you happen to be nearby check it out and tell me if you find something to die for :)
Hope you survive Mondee homies.
XO
